PROTECT YOUR
NURSERY PLANTS
Nursery growers know the unique challenges of keeping a growing environment just right for optimal crop growth. Whether you’re cultivating saplings, shrubs, or young plants, our greenhouse specialists can design and build the perfect greenhouse structure from the ground up. GGS Greenhouse Structures has over 45 years of expertise in manufacturing commercial greenhouse solutions to help growers succeed. Our team works with growers as partners to design, manufacture, and construct high-quality greenhouse structures.

GREENHOUSE STRUCTURES FOR NURSERY GROWERS
With so many choices in the industry, today’s growers often come to us for recommendations. Rest assured, choosing GGS as your commercial greenhouse builder is the right choice – your success is our priority. We’re your all-in-one greenhouse partner. When operating a greenhouse nursery, a freestanding greenhouse or cold frame structure is the preferred choice. Roll-up side venting is optional, depending on what crops you’re growing. Side venting is recommended for poly-covered structures to allow growers to take advantage of the natural elements during warmer weather. GGS will recommend, design, construct, and install the greenhouse style you need based on the type of crops you’re growing. GGS’s recommendations for nursery crops are based on what our customers most commonly prefer. Growers can use any structure and combination of system integrations they prefer.

BUILT FOR PERFORMANCE
Greenhouse nurseries differ in features and requirements from commercial greenhouses. When cultivating saplings, growers benefit from lower maintenance requirements than other crops. For example, tropical plants require higher temperatures and a greenhouse that meets specific climate control needs. Start your nursery stock in a warmer, more controlled greenhouse environment, and once they are ready for the next stage, a coldframe structure (or hoop house) is the ideal growing environment.
Benefits of Cold Frames
Unlike other greenhouse structures, cold frames do not require a concrete foundation. Instead, ground cover or stone is sufficient. Growers can cover their crops with poly during cooler outdoor temperatures or remove it when it’s warmer. Some growers opt for double-layered poly with an inflation unit to put air between the layers. This method helps retain heat, fights frost, and prevents poly wind damage. If growing nursery crops during the winter months, a small amount of heat can be used inside the nursery greenhouse to keep frost from settling.
Another cost-efficient benefit for growers is the fewer pest control requirements for young crops. Cold frames, considered temporary structures, also don’t require permits. GGS will recommend the most cost-effective structure for nursery growers. We can also design space for storage, office space, and other facilities.
INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY WITH ROLLING BENCHES
Our custom-built greenhouse benches are ideal for optimizing space efficiency in commercial growing environments. With up to 50% more production, we recommend rolling benches over stationary benches. Growers can increase profits by eliminating the need for dedicated aisles. Designed for ease of use, one-touch easy roll bench tops feature all-aluminum construction to prevent corrosion. We’ve also kept workers in mind with mitered corners to prevent ripped clothing.
Why Choose GGS Rolling Benches?
- Anti-tip brackets for added assurance and safety
- Designed for easy installation, to get your operation started faster
- Precise height adjustments reduce strain on workers
- GGS Benches offer the smoothest and lightest roll in the industry
- Multiple top options and support
- Vertical shelving is available on all GGS benches

What heating system should I use in my nursery?
Forced air heating is ideal in greenhouse nurseries to keep frost off the plants. Heating in greenhouse nurseries is more common in winter (in the northern hemisphere). Most trees and shrubs don’t require much heat, so forced air unit heaters are used; these can be set low. Heat settings will depend on the amount of heated space and the crop’s requirements for optimal growth.
Forced air heating: Recommended for smaller ranges and free-standing greenhouse nursery structures.
Pro-Tip: Nursery growers house their young plants using cold frames or freestanding greenhouse structures. During naturally warmer months, growers can enjoy cost savings by opening roll-up side venting to take advantage of natural elements.
How can I control humidity?
Freestanding or cold frame nursery greenhouses are often designed with roll-up sides for venting. This helps control humidity.
What kind of lighting does a greenhouse nursery need?
Lighting is not usually necessary in nursery cold frames or freestanding greenhouse structures due to the natural light available.
Do I need irrigation in a greenhouse nursery?
Yes. Irrigation brings water and nutrients directly to the plant. In greenhouse nurseries, a simple irrigation system is sufficient. Drippers effectively deliver nutrients to young plants while reducing waste since each plant is directly connected to the delivery system.
Can I automate my greenhouse operation with computer controls?
In nursery greenhouse structures, thermostats and timers can be utilized to keep heating and operational costs low.
