Florida and Minnesota Race to be 22nd State to Legalize Medical Marijauana
The race is on… who will be the 22nd State to legalize Medical Marijuana?
And what creative lawmaking will be utilized to bridge the cap between conservative lawmakers and liberal proponents of Marijuana as a socially acceptable choice?
In Minnesota a compromise between lawmakers has paved the way for a legalized medical marijuana and dispensary system. But there’s a catch: Minnesota will outlaw smoking of the plant. This changes the nature of business opportunities in the Minnesota vs. more traditional MMJ markets.
Meanwhile in Florida, Governor Rick Scott is preparing to sign the Charlotte’s Web bill into law, which will allow a very limited legal marijuana industry. Unlike Minnesota, Florida is not regulating the form with which patients ingest their cannabis medicine, but restricting the strains that will be accepted, and limiting the number of growers to 6.
In Florida a broader Medical Marijuana Legislation is on the ballot for the November elections, but activists and cannabis entrepreneurs are concerned that the current Charlotte's web initiative has been put in place to satisfy the majority of conservative republican voters.
Will laws that allow Marijuana but with such restrictions help promote a broader more open federal policy on Cannabis, or are these measures just a way to stop the tidal wave of public opinion demanding that elective officials support Marijuana. What do you think?
