Hurricane Sandy: Tips for Preventing Damage in your Greenhouse
Hurricane Sandy is expected to cause a lot of damage to the east coast tonight and into tomorrow morning. Here are some quick tips to prevent/minimize damage in your greenhouse:
- Make sure your vents are closed all the way, and shut down any automated system that may open them
- Ensure your roof is fully inflated
- Check that all doors are closed and secured tightly
- In extreme wind, the lifting force of the wind can force vents open. If they start to slip, tie the muntin to the arch to prevent the vents from raising
- Above all else…take safety precautions and do not enter greenhouses or send employees in when wind exceeds the loading your structure was built for.
